Waiting for Shinigami
Chapter 14 The tongue that was running across Duo's face wasn't Heero's. In fact, it wasn't human. So long as both of these statements were either true or false, Duo felt justified in having to decide whether he wanted to open his eyes to investigate. At last, however, curiosity got the better of him, and he opened his violet eyes to find himself staring into a pair of brown ones. So brown they were very nearly black. Those eyes were in the small head of long-haired yellow puppy. Like many dogs of it's age, the puppy was mostly eyes, ears, and legs. And tongue. That tongue was licking Duo's face again. He reached up and picked up the puppy, which moved its tongue from face to hand without missing a beat. "Where did you come from?" Duo asked the canine as he straightened himself to a sitting position on the couch. "She's a present," Heero said from where he was taking off his jacket to hang it up. "I stopped by the animal shelter on my way home. I just felt like celebrating," "Palato's the guy?" Duo asked, stroking the little dog's head. Heero grinned, but there was something a little scary
about it. "He is indeed. We should have a location on him by
the end of the week. Let's talk about that later, though. Right now,
I want to know what you think of your little girl. She's a smart little
girl, some kind of spaniel mix, already house broken, had her shots
and Duo had settled into Heero's life in such a way that the latter knew it would kill him to ever have his lover leave him. The hole that been there all of his life, the one that had made him question why he was a soldier, if what he did really mattered, and if he could ever be a regular person, had been filled with Duo. The puppy was his way of trying to help Duo see that somehow, when he wasn't looking, he had established himself in Heero's home and in his life. As for Duo, he didn't care about ulterior motives. As far as he was concerned, a man who loved him had given him a sweet, adorable little puppy. That was it. If there was another reason, it was as good and noble as the gift's giver. Duo trusted that. He didn't know when he had come to, but he did. "She's beautiful. Does she have a name?" Duo asked, rapidly warming to the furry creature in his arms. "Nope. That's for you to decide," Heero said, snuggling up next to his lover on the couch. Duo frowned in concentration as he tried to think of a name for the animal. "Well, she is a bitch. Could we name her-" "No," Heero interrupted. Then he started trailing kisses down the inviting column of Duo's neck. "You'd best think of something quick, though, because I intend to rob you of your ability to think as soon as possible," he murmured. Duo shivered at the feel of Heero's teeth, nipping gently at his throat. "Uh, she could be-" Duo's voice cut off in a gasp as Heero sucked on the hard peak of his nipple through the shirt he was wearing. "A name," Heero reminded him, teasing in his voice. "If you don't come up with one now, I'm afraid she'll have to wait a while." His hands slid under Duo's shirt to feel the firmness of his stomach and chest. "Maybe a long while." Duo tried desperately to think with his toes curling in sheer bliss, but it was not easy, to say the least. He needed something. Just then, his eye fell on a source of eternal inspiration. "Kumi! We'll call her Kumi." (2) Heero laughed. "I think that will do just fine." "Our dog has a name, so I can stop thinking now," Duo said, lowering his eyes a little, then smiling at his lover. Heero scooped the puppy out of Duo's lap, snuggled her briefly against him, and then set her on the floor. "You go explore. I puppy-proofed everything earlier, so you shouldn't get into too much trouble. Just don't chew on anything that doesn't belong to you." Kumi looked at him as though absorbing his words carefully, then turned abruptly and began nosing around the apartment. The pair watched a moment before going back to more pressing concerns like the fact the Heero's shirt had somehow mysteriously become unbuttoned. Never one to pass up an opportunity, Duo made good use of the bared skin. After a minute, they adjourned to the bedroom to discuss the dilemma of the rapidly disappearing clothing further. ~ * ~ [1] Kumi means braid or ribbon in Japanese. |
